About the Author: The Section on Adolescent Health (SOAH) provides an educational, representative forum for pediatricians who are interested in the health care of adolescents, and enables members to meet for the purpose of initiation, discussion and development of ideas and programs which will improve the health care of young people in their second decade of life. It provides an educational forum for the membership at large in expanding their basic pediatric knowledge and skills to include the adolescent patient.

Michelle Forcier, MD, MPH, is an Associate Professor in Pediatrics and Assistant Dean of Admissions at Alpert School of Medicine, Brown University. She graduated from Brown University, University of Connecticut School of Medicine, University of Utah Pediatrics. She obtained her MPH in epidemiology and preventive medicine training while doing a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Fellowship at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She has been doing community based and academic adolescent primary care, along with gender, sexuality, and reproductive justice work for 20 years. She provides advanced family planning care and services for LGB and transgender persons in the New England community.

Joanna Brown, MD, MPH, serves as Associate Medical Director for a federally qualified health center, and teaches family medicine residents about adolescent medical homes. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Brown University Department of Family Medicine in Rhode Island. She is the former Medical Director at a juvenile detention center, where she directed a patient-centered medical home facilitation initiative. She trained as an adolescent medicine fellow at Boston Children's Hospital, received her medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and her Masters in Public Health from Harvard.

Robert T Brown, MD, is a recently retired Professor of Pediatrics at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University in Camden, NJ. Prior to that he was Chair of Pediatrics at Chester-Crozer (PA) Hospital. He also is a Professor Emeritus in Pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine where he was Chief of the Section of Adolescent Medicine at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Dr Brown is a former president of the North American Society of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, of the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine, and former chair of the Section of Adolescent Health of the AAP. He has co-authored 4 textbooks of Adolescent Medicine, and he has edited several journal issues. Recently he served as founding co-editor of the AAP PREP: Adolescent Medicine on-line CME program.
