MÁGICO PONTÓN SOBRE EL VACÍO

El mejor lugar para matarse por amor, nada menos, fue escogido por Abel Germán como punto de arranque para las andadas de "Altos techos de asbesto", un poemario (aunque yo lo veo como un solo poema, extenso y regio) en torno al destino, la murria, el fracaso de la existencia... Claro que la roca Léucade fue el mejor lugar para matarse sólo en tiempos de la Antigua Grecia. Hoy podríamos hallar lugar en cualquier parte, a cada paso, donde, según el poeta, la realidad tiene ese peso de futura ruina.
Pero no son el suicidio ni el drama de morir por amor los que nutren esta magistral pieza poética. Por más que algún sustancioso motivo debió tener su autor para iniciarla aludiendo a la isla que sirvió de trampolín hacia la eternidad para la poeta Safo de Lesbos. Entonces, como el drama amoroso no alinea entre los asuntos del libro, podríamos pensar que Abel escogiera el lugar como un reparo a la leyenda. Téngase en cuenta que en la fecha de su presunto sacrificio en Léucade, Safo andaba ya por los 70 años, y no es habitual que un septuagenario se mate por amor, únicamente quiero decir, sin otras razones. Ni siquiera creo que alguien cuerdo lo haga, al margen de su edad. Ya nos advertía Pavese (antes de suicidarse por amor, a los 42 años) que nadie se mata por amor, sino porque un amor, cualquier amor, revela nuestra desnudez ante las miserias de la vida.
Y justo por conducto de esa desnudez podríamos hallar quizás algún engarce entre la inmemorial leyenda de Safo y una obra de hoy con tan elevado aliento: Coso al aire esa roca y la figura de esa mujer que/ sigue entre los papeles/ más viejos del mundo/ e imagino que, así, el presente toma cuerpo.
A la manera de aquellos clásicos de la épica que enhebraban largos poemas para ser escuchados de un tirón, el autor de "Altos techos de asbesto" nos introduce en una especie de sueño, o de insomne delirio tal vez, y nos lo va describiendo a pormenor, con reminiscencias de epopeya, sólo que aquí no señorean las hazañas del héroe, sino apenas el melancólico viacrucis de un poeta frente a su menguada subsistencia: Ulises, de lo que se trata es de no volver, si no/ es otra cosa: acaso turismo... Otra cosa, asimismo, y especialmente distinguida, es este poemario (o poema), escrito como para leer sin pausas ni postergaciones, toda vez que su organismo acústico no da respiro. Cada verso está diestramente ordenado en función del conjunto, con un sentido de totalidad que le confiere virtudes excepcionales. Es el summum de la poesía pujando por develar, incluso más allá de las palabras, alguna otra realidad indecible: La cuestión (cercana, terrenal, práctica) es/ el desasosiego... De modo que, como debe ser, los medios derivan/ en fines./ Paseo por la cornisa para despistar./ El sol se ha ido y eso ayuda./ Tapono con el dedo la hemorragia./ Nada sugiere que esa lobreguez, / el dedo metido en el culo del cielo y/ el viejo tras la ventana acrediten algo...
