La Vieja Nueva Tierra (alemán: Altneuland; hebreo: תֵּל-אָבִיב Tel Aviv, "Tel de la primavera"; yiddish: אַלטנײַלאַנד) es una novela utópica publicada por Theodor Herzl, el fundador del sionismo político, en 1902. Se publicó seis años después del panfleto político de Herzl, Der Judenstaat (El Estado Judío) y amplió la visión de Herzl sobre el retorno de los judíos a la Tierra de Israel, lo que contribuyó a que Altneuland se convirtiera en uno de los textos fundadores del sionismo. Fue traducido al hebreo por Nahum Sokolow como Tel Aviv (Varsovia, 1902), nombre que se adoptó entonces para la ciudad recién fundada. La novela cuenta la historia de Friedrich Löwenberg, un joven intelectual judío vienés que, cansado de la decadencia europea, se une a un aristócrata prusiano americanizado llamado Kingscourt cuando se retiran a una remota isla del Pacífico (se menciona específicamente que forma parte de las Islas Cook, cerca de Rarotonga) en 1902. Al detenerse en Jaffa en su camino hacia el Pacífico, encuentran que Palestina es una tierra atrasada, indigente y escasamente poblada, tal como le pareció a Herzl en su visita de 1898. Löwenberg y Kingscourt pasan los siguientes veinte años en la isla, aislados de la civilización. Cuando hacen escala en Palestina de regreso a Europa en 1923, se sorprenden al descubrir una tierra drásticamente transformada. El libro fue traducido inmediatamente al hebreo por Nahum Sokolow, que le dio el título poético de "Tel Aviv", utilizando tel ('montículo antiguo') para 'viejo' y aviv ('primavera') para 'nuevo'. El nombre como tal aparece en el Libro de Ezequiel, donde se utiliza para un lugar de Babilonia al que los israelitas habían sido exiliados (Ezequiel 3:15). El título hebreo del libro fue elegido como nombre para un nuevo barrio de Jaffa, establecido en 1909 con el nombre no inspirado de "Ahuzat Bayit", lit. "Hogar".
