About the Book

English summary: When Emperor Augustus brought the civil wars to a close, thereby initiating a new Golden Age, Rome experienced an economic and cultural boom like never before. Publius Ovidius Naso was one of the most famous poets of this period and yet Augustus unexpectedly and for reasons unknown sent him into exile. Ovid had to spend his last years in Tomi by the Black Sea. He died there in the year 18 AD, lonely and embittered. The Metamorphoses are his main work. With the help of these stories, the Greeks and the Romans tried to make sense of the world. However, to Ovid these stories meant even more. For him they expressed a philosophical belief that nothing in the world endures. "Cuncta fluunt", everything flows. Everything changes, nothing remains as it is. And yet nothing is ever completely lost. Since everything we are and everything we do, say and think leaves its mark.
About the Author: Christina Lang has always retold in many years of teaching at the Academic High School Vienna, the transformation Share Ovid anew for their students - some closely partly by freely embellishes scenes that dealt with Ovid only in condensed form in the template. Now she has these retellings, thematically arranged and accompanied by short introductions, presented in book form. Written with a light hand and always facing the reader, is the little bands also lateinunkundigen people convey the stories of Ovid, which are whether cheerful or dramatic, marked by profound respect for the gods and the consciousness of his own weakness and dependence on higher powers.
