About the Book

Returning to Portsmouth with the explicit intention of leaving naval service I met by chance with my godfather who although failing to recognise me immediately initiated a change enabling my life to move forward in a manner that I had not considered possible. What I had believed to be ingratitude on the part of Admiralty was revealed to have been considered by senior officers to have been in the interest of the nation's security. From the very moment that I took the advice of Vice Admiral Sir Richard Wooderson my naval career moved forward at an incredible pace. I shall always be indebted to him for his sound advice. Allegiance to the Crown covers a tour of duty not uncommon in the early eighteen hundreds, leaving English shores for long periods, in which serving men experienced events that many who remained at home could only dream of but could never feel the horror of being involved in such events. Adventure on the high seas was not without its dangers death could arrive in an instant during battle or more slowly on the operating table a result of shock from the pain of amputation with only a leather strap to bite down on. As an officer aboard a Kings ship I found to my own cost that life aboard a fighting ship was not without danger. After all during the eighteen hundreds the grim reaper was never far away.
About the Author: David Kenneth Bird entered the world of writing after a long and rewarding career in the aviation industry. Born in England in the county of Surrey during an air raid on the first day of September 1940 his life has been an adventure that has spanned many countries across the globe beginning as an apprentice airframe fitter with Eagle Airways in 1955 until 1959 when he began a twelve year engagement in the Royal Air Force serving in Bomber Command the Second Allied Tactical Air Force and Transport Command; in 1969 he was awarded a commendation for services to the Royal Air Force promulgated in the Queens Birthday Honours list. In 1970 he met his wife Gayleen and after 43 years of marriage and four children they enjoy the delights of being grandparents. After eleven years with Marshall of Cambridge David joined the Lockheed Aerospace Company as an engineering manager with Lockheed Arabia. During the Gulf War in 1991 he remained in Riyadh and experienced modern warfare as the city came under attack on several occasions from scud missiles fired by Iraqi forces. During his spare time in Arabia David organized and administered the International scout group Riyadh for youth of all nationalities and for a short time accepted the post of District Commissioner British Scouts Riyadh. Returning to England the transition to writer began and the titles web site reflect his dedication and determination to prove that even at seventy five you are not to old to tell a story.
