El periodo de la novela abarca de 1750 al 1810. Era común que los indígenas se mantuvieran alejados de la población por ser considerados ladrones y muchos de ellos rebeldes. Historia: El virrey de la nueva España Pedro de Cebrián y Agustín, quinto conde de Fuente clara, había enviado en número creciente jóvenes Jesuitas para que tranquilizaran a los mestizos y a los indígenas en las zonas del norte del país, entre ellos fue enviado Francisco de Manjarrez a la zona de Ajoya, San Ignacio, Sinaloa. Si bien afirma una cierta integridad, nuestro libro no puede eludir los problemas fundamentales asociados con las religiones del mundo. Al tratarlos, partiremos de los textos fundamentales, y no de los acontecimientos que tienen lugar en nuestro mundo, que siempre son secundarios, por apasionantes que sean. Sin embargo, incluso el lector encontrará aquí un análisis muy interesante y útil de los procesos sociales de la época colonial. Su convivencia, interacción y lucha continúa a lo largo de la historia para llegar a la Independencia, alcanzando un clímax en los últimos Tiempos del año 1800. El lugar es Ajoya, San Ignacio, Sinaloa. Contiene un enfoque histórico, religioso y los personajes que van gradualmente haciendo posible la penetración en ideas para el cambio. El joven Jesuita Francisco de Manjarrez se portaba amable con la gente sin importar que estos fueran indígenas, mestizos, criollos, españoles. Escuchaba los lamentos de la gente por las condiciones en las que vivían, pero en un principio no deseaba interferir. En la música se dedicó a construir instrumentos musicales con la madera que los hombres trabajaban y pronto pudo mezclar los sonidos de esos instrumentos con su acordeón que serviría para interpretar canciones religiosas.

Solo los indígenas traídos del sur de México se mantenían pacíficos. Los frailes trataban de que vivieran juntos pero los indígenas del norte preferían vivir entre ellos, no admitían a los del Sur, ni les permitían que practicaran sus costumbres. Para 1650, las epidemias redujeron la población autóctona en todo el país. También sobrevino una baja del comercio. La población descendió y la oferta de mano de obra escaseaba. La nueva Galicia se caracterizaba porque su población mayor era de raza blanca. Todo parece indicar que en 1700 la economía comenzó a reactivarse y se comenzaron a ver más mestizos ante la falta de mujeres blancas. La resistencia que mostraban los indígenas molestos a la iglesia católica por lo que solicito a la milicia que los sometiera por la fuerza.
La minería dando la pauta para que surja con fuerza la ganadería y la agricultura. La falta de una casa de moneda en Zacatecas y Guadalajara, en 1700 permitió el contrabando de lingotes de oro y plata vía marítima sin pagar aduana.
