About the Book

English summary: What the Pharaoh was not able to achieve 3,500 years ago was completed by political Zionism and the Egyptian leadership: namely the end of a splendid Jewish community. The world's oldest Jewish community contained approximately 85,000 people in 1948. It was completely wiped out. Today, there are about one to two hundred Jews living in Egypt. This study traces the history of the Jews in Egypt since Biblical times, from around 1550 BC (the time of the first Exodus) until 1948, 1956 and 1967 AD (the time of the second Exodus) which began in the wake of the foundation of the state of Israel and ended with the three wars fought against Israel. It describes and analyzes the highs and lows experienced by Jews in Egypt. The book is based on interviews with ninety-six former Egyptians now living in Israel and in the United States. Heute leben in Agypten ca. 100-200 Juden.
