-Los sucesos de los últimos días han sido en extremo desafortunados -dice el Agorero, entrelazando sus dedos-. Lord Morcul está encerrado, perdimos el Amuleto, y todo gracias a dos de tus Guardianes.

-Mi Señor, usted debe entender la situación en la que me encuentro. Se trata de una cuestión política, y yo estoy en medio, con el rey por un lado y la Secta por el otro. -Hizo una pausa, pero al no recibir respuesta, prosiguió -Y usted mejor que nadie debe saber que la Secta ha perdido poder en los últimos tiempos, ya no es como antes. El rey ha estado rompiendo los antiguos acuerdos...

-Me apena percatarme de que-interrumpió el Agorero-, para ser el Mayor, estés tan mal enterado de la situación política de la Secta. Tal vez no puedas ver nuestro poder, pero no ha menguado.

-Pero el rey...

-Nosotros nos encargaremos del rey.

-Hasta que eso pase, debo acatar sus órdenes... las órdenes del trono.

-¿Estás diciendo que no obedecerás las órdenes de la Mesa?

-Por supuesto que lo haré, hasta donde me sea posible.

-Creo que no entiende, Mayor. La Secta le paga por acatar las órdenes. Usted es miembro de la Secta, ¿no?

Un sudor frío bajaba por la frente del mayor.

-Sí -trastabilló.

-Los intereses de la Secta van por encima de cualquier otro, ya sea familiar, personal, o real.

-Mi Lord, con todo el respeto que usted se merece, pero en una situación política como esta...

-Esta no es una situación política para usted, señor Garmal, es un escenario de vida o muerte. ¿Entiende esto?

Garmal se llenó de valor.

-¿Es una amenaza de muerte?

El Agorero sonrió.

-Por supuesto que no.

Con dificultad, se puso de pie y extendió su brazo izquierdo sobre la mesa. En su dedo meñique lucía un anillo de oro con la insignia de la Secta: el tulipán negro.

El Mayor entendió que la entrevista había terminado. Se puso de pie y se inclinó por encima de la mesa para besar el anillo, cosa que había hecho varias veces antes.

El Agorero, demostrando una rapidez impresionante, que denotaba un movimiento practicado, con su mano derecha sacó de dentro de su manto un largo cuchillo recto, y mientras el Mayor besaba el anillo, se lo enterró en la nuca. La hoja salió por la garganta, y el Agorero retiró el cuchillo.

Garmal cayó sobre la mesa, se llevó las manos al cuello, vomitó sangre y comenzó a retorcerse. Se deslizó de la mesa al suelo, cayendo de espalda.

El Agorero caminó hacia él. Garmal tenía los ojos bien abiertos.

-La Secta no amenaza de muerte. Solo la ejecuta.

Cuando el Agorero cerró la puerta al retirarse, lo último que escuchó fue un último espasmo del hombre que se ahogaba en su propia sangre.
