'Ageing', i.e. growing older is a universal natural phenomenon. With miraculous achievements in the fields of health care and medicine, longevity of humans has prolonged whereas mortality rate is checked. Consequently the population of elderly persons is increasing leaps and bound. The sad aspects of scenario is that traditional values of respecting and caring old have diminished and the 'senior citizens' are suffering from many problems social-familal, health, economic etc.
This book focusses on problems of aged/elderly persons in the state of Tripura. Based on empirical studies, this will prove a primary source book to scholars, policy-makers administrators and social activists in the field of gerontology and sociology/social work.
About Author :
Dr. Chandrika Basu Majumder obtained her M.A. and M.Phil. Degree in Political Science from Calcutta University and was awarded the Degree of Ph.D. by Gauhati University. Currently, she is Head of the Department of Political Science, Tripura University. A prolific writer, her publications include-GTenesis of Chakma Movement in Chittagong Hill Tracts, Democratic Heritage of Tribes of Tripura and Peace Process in Tripura: Problems and Prospects besides some research papers Her areas of interest are Human Rights, Women Studies and Panchayati Raj.
Ms Paramita Saha is Lecturer (Selection Grade) in the Department of Applied and Analytical Economics, Tripura University. She has obtained her M.A. in Economics from Calcutta University and submitted her thesis on Population Ageing in Tripura at Gauhati University. She has a few published papes in journals and edited volumes. Her areas of interest are Population Studies, Gender Studies and Rural Development.
