About the Book

On Planet Perfuma, Where Wysiwyg lives, garbage is the fuel that supplies power for automobiles, spaceships, . computers, lights, water...everything; even turning the lights on when it gets dark. Many, many years ago, Perfuma's forefathers discovered how to make garbage into fuel. They didn't think they would ever run out of garbage, but they did. Perfuma is the prettiest, the cleanest and best smelling planet in the whole Galaxy because it never smells of garbage, only beautiful flowers that grow everywhere the garbage use to be; while pretty is nice, it's not always the most important. Fuel is necessary for survival-not flowers and pretty smells. The citizens of Perfuma are desperate, they must find the bravest one on Planet Perfuma to travel through the Galaxy to find Planet Earth and ask the Earthlings to please give all their old garbage to Planet Perfuma so it will be able to survive. Everyone on the Planet is gathered in the great hall to decide who will be chosen and over the crowd and the name the Master hears over and over is WYSIWYG: "Wysiwyg is Brave," "Wysiwyg is Strong," "Wysiwyg can do it," "Wysiwyg is Nice and it's nice to be nice.." Then a Booming Voice silences the crowd as the Master speaks. "Wysiwyg, You have been choosen to travel through the Galaxy to Planet Earth. Go bravely, learn, listen well. Find us the fuel to survive. OUR FUTURE IS IN YOUR HANDS." Wysiwyg said humbly: "Who me? I must be very brave? I must learn all I can about Planet Earth and the Earthlings so we can become friends and they give me their garbage to take home to my planet so we will have fuel?" Wysiwyg means: WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET. The name of the flying saucer that Wysiwyg is going to fly to Planet Earth is GIGO, which stands fo: r GARBAGE IN, GARBAGE OUT. Wysiwyg waves goodbye as off he goes, bravely, into the unknown. Except for the twinkling of the stars and the softy spinning sounds of the other planets as he whizzed by them, everything is very, very quiet. The whole world felt like it was standing still, dark purple...so dark it was almoat black...and it was very scary. Then, just when Wysiwyg was about to give up, the sky lit up with so many bright, dazzling colors it almost blinded him and he began sliding down, down and down - he not only found the rainbow, he was sliding down on the color yellow so fast he could hardly catch his breath. He stepped on the brakes with all his might and GICO screeched to a stop just before Wysiwyg was about to fall head first into the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. WOW, said Wysiwyg to himself, that was close! And there, right in front of him was a very tall lady waving at him with a light in her hand to guide him. As he got closer, he realized he was looking at one of the pictures about the Planet Earth he studied before he left home. He was right above the Statue of Liberty in New York City. He remembered the story of how this statue symbols Freedom.
