About the Book

"...the message will draw people in. Chicka is both inspirational and practical. I like that!!" - Peg Smith, CEO, American Camp Association Addicted to Camp is a witty and authentic exchange about the core motivations and challenges faced by staff who work at summer camp. This book positions a raised level of expectation for the next-generation leaders to prevail safe, strong and healthy mindsets as they impact the camper experience into the future. If you have ever worked at a summer camp in the past, work at a camp today or plan to be a leader in the future - this book is a must read. Chicka masterfully weaves relatable camp experiences with the unspoken, yet obvious tensions the staff encounter at camp. Leaders are challenged to reinforce "why" they are working at camp and encouraged to concede if it is time to move on. Addicted To Camp will provoke, inspire and provide you with everything you need to be a better leader at camp. More Praise for "Addicted To Camp" "This book takes you on a daring journey. While empathizing with your innermost thoughts about the true complexities of being an organized camp professional, Chicka challenges summer camp leaders to step back and think about their core motivations for working at camp. This book will inspire future staff to make an intentional difference in the lives of their campers." - Herb Toplan - 7 year Executive Camp Director, California "Chicka has fused together the unspoken tensions of camp. This book will positively shape current staff members and our leaders-to-be in a personal and professional call to action during their summers." - Rasheed Anthony - 9 year Summer Camp Staff Director, Catalina Island Camps "A visceral, humorous and emotionally charged book of self-discovery & awareness. As a leader at camp, Chicka unearths the authentic highs and challenging lows of working at camp. This book will be what current and future staff discern as their trusted compass and guiding light in effective camp leadership." - Karen Borbolla - 12 year Lead Instructor, Mother of three campers, Michigan "Challenge accepted! If you can figure out how to get this book into the hands of every CIT it will spark a new smell around camp fires across the country. This book will push Camp Owners and Directors to rethink how they are grooming their staff to take their camp into the next decade." - Danielle Huddleston - Camp Counselor, New Jersey
