Jahrhunderts, 20 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Insgesamt sind zwei Werke Adam Smiths für die Nachwelt von Bedeutung. "The Theory of Moral Sentiments" erschien 1759 und ist eine Abhandlung über die die Natur des Menschen und dessen Verhältnis zur Gesellschaft. 1776 wurde "An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations" veröffentlicht, Smiths bekanntestes Werk. Es gilt als Grundstein der klassischen Ökonomie. Dieses Werk ist es auch, mit dem sich diese Arbeit im Wesentlichen befasst. Dessen Bedeutung für die Geisteswelt beschränkt sich nicht nur auf die ökonomische Ebene. Vielmehr beeinflusste Smiths Forderung nach der "natürlichen Freiheit" der Individuen auch viele politische Denker, die sich später als Anhänger des Liberalismus unter anderem auf ihn berufen sollten. So ist Smith in jeder Hinsicht aktuell. Nicht nur weil wir heute in einem kapitalistischen System der Marktwirtschaft leben, sondern auch in einem demokratischer Verfassungsstaat. Diese Arbeit befasst sich mit der ökonomischen Theorie Smiths aus gesellschafts-theoretischer Sicht. Durch die Untersuchung dieser werde ich sie kritisch nach logischen Zusammenhängen zur politischen Theorie des Liberalismus analysieren, vor allem im Hinblick auf die soziale Verträglichkeit. Hat Smith seine Gesellschaftstheorie weit genug durchdacht? Gibt es Widersprüche?
