Garrett was invited to attend the Lambda Literary Foundation's 2014 Writer's Retreat for Emerging LBGTQ Voices and Eckerd College's 2015 Writers in Paradise Conference. Two chapters of The Accident of Being Human were included in Eckerd's prestigious literary magazine.
