Construyó fosas e hizo guardia de noche para defenderse de los ataques, al mismo tiempo cavó pozos y colocó cadenas que anunciaban la llegada de los nativos.La joven se casó con su primer esposo y tuvo seis hijos y cuando él murió, ella continuó con los animales y los sembrados que atestiguaban toda la abnegación de una dama solitaria en pie de guerra. Pagó sus tierras, compró más hectáreas y edificó una fábrica de queso con numerosos empleados; la producción era vendida después en la población vecina.

Tiempo más tarde conoció a François que venía de los combates de Europa y le dio trabajo en su establecimiento.
