About the Book

The title ''ABBA AND POLIO'' is a fictional long story about a polio victim whose overprotective family had strong hatred for polio vaccine. Abba, ''the victim'' was in his heyday when it came to the knowledge of his family that he had been terribly affected by the most dangerous form of polio____paralystic polio, to the extent both his leg and hand got malformed mysteriously .This was coming following a long term thorough medical check-up by specialists in the city hospital which brought it to the conclusion that speedy actions had to be put in place so as to ensure that no more case of the disease was found in the community having confirmed that, Abba, was now a sole victim all over the region. Abba and his family became the center of attention the day the community was removed from the list of polio free communities. Mama, Abba's, mother found herself in the most testing period of life when they were both paraded on the television and interviewed by an international radio station which made her willing to go everywhere in quest for medicine for her dear son come rain come shine. Gradually, Abba became desperate and bored due to the unfair discrimination he faced from their teachers at school. One day, he asked his mother to kill him as a lasting solution to the difficulty she had been facing in her attempt to find medicine for him which he often called a DREAM WORLD telling her that he was no more useful to her so she should either take him somewhere else and leave him stranded or allow him to kill himself. The IDEA that lead to his dismissal from school following his two consecutive suicide attempts at school which made the situation much more bitter for his mother as she always saw a number of children going or coming back from schools in bundles without her dear son who she believed despite being physically challenged should enjoy the same privilege as the rest of the children. Mama spent the rest of her life seeking for medicine for her dear son while he was always striving to commit suicide. Three attempts he had made to kill himself were to no avail. His life became much more difficult than ever before when he was deceived by his servants who were employed by his mother with a view to giving him a motherly care if she died due to the fact that he was totally helpless and there was no one among his family members left to take care of him. This made, Abba, more disheartened and decided to engage in an incessant hunger strike by detaining himself in his house for many months, before he surprisingly got recovered. His recovery was like fantasy. It came through an old woman of about 90 years who was also a polio Victim with badly malformed leg and hand! In addition the title ''ABBA AND POLIO'' has to do with the term ''POLIO''. Its forms, symptoms, prevention, and vaccines.
