Growing up in the inner-city of Detroit, Michigan, Kabazza, aka "Kay", was raised as an only child, living a sheltered life with the one person he thought he'd ever need: his mom. Besides his mom, the only company Kay desired, was that of his own shadow. He was loner, and he liked it that way. After graduating high school, and getting access to a trust-fund left to him after the death of his absentee father, Kay quickly gets accustomed to having whatever he wants, whenever he wants. He showers himself with the best of everything, and his loner ways continues until fate leads him staring into the eyes of the one woman that he knew was meant for him. Taj was, indeed, his soul mate.Ultimately, love leads Kay to move out of state, and after a deadly car-jacking frightens his mom enough to give her blessings to her only son, Kay packs his things and starts a new life in Decatur, Illinois with Taj. where he becomes a husband and the father to an amazingly talented child. After the money from his trust-fund dwindles down to uncharted territory, Kay dives head-first into the drug game when he sees the opportunity to help his wife's dream come true of opening up her own beauty salon. And after enlisting the help of the son of one of Taj's friends, Run, Kay plants his feet in the fertile soil of out-of-state drug dealing and accomplishes everything he'd set out to do in order to put a smile on his wife's face. He knew her expression would've been completely different had she'd known that her husband had been dealing drugs right under her nose. Eventually, she finds out and gives Kay an ultimatum: Get out the game or she's getting a divorce. Of course, Kay isn't going to give up his family, so he abruptly ends his career as a drug dealer and goes legit with the healthy stash of cash he had accumulated. But just when he thought he'd escaped with plenty of cash and his freedom, the feds move in and arrest Kay after having been out of the game for over a year. Facing a double-digit prison sentence, Kay does the unthinkable and cooperates with the feds in order to get a a three-year sentence instead of leaving his family behind for a decade. While in prison, Kay meets Devon Raines, aka "New York", a bubbly character who laughs and jokes the days away while doing a twenty-five year prison sentence. He's a "stand up" guy who took his time instead of taking someone down with him. They become best friends, something Kay never had in his life. But when Kay decides to confess to New York about being a snitch, their friendship takes a turn that could ultimately lead to much worse than any prison sentence.
