About the Book
I have wanted to be an Actor since I was 5. I worked at it and Loved it more that anyone I know and would see others getting opportunities, getting work that I felt I should have gotten. So, in order to ensure that I would get to work, I started my own group, The Artist Theatre Group. It was here that I also began teaching, so that I would have a community of Artist that worked the same way and held the same principles. I knew that being an Actor wan't enough. If I felt I had the Right to Act, I would have to Write, to Act. I have always been (I think) a good story teller, so I began writing plays to give me the opportunity to get on Stage. This book contains the first 36 One Act Plays that I have written. As an Acting teacher, I see may students doing the same scenes over and over again. This will be a perfect book for all those Acting Students that are looking for new material to work that no one has scene before. This book of plays contains Comedies, Drama's, Fantasy and Black Comedies. I hope that the readers of this book enjoy reading these plays as much as i loved Writing and Acting in them.
About the Author: From the time I was 5, I knew that I wanted to be an Actor. I had no idea how difficult a struggle it would be. I went to H.B. Studios, because I read somewhere that Pacino had gone there. I loved it. I was becoming an Actor. In 1984 I moved to Burbank, California. It was while in Los Angeles that I I discovered the Meisner Technique, which changed my Acting and my Life, for the better, forever. I had the honor to meet and study with Sanford Meisner. I worked harder than anyone I knew, and I could not get a break. I got tired of auditioning for plays that were already cast, and decided to begin, The Artist Theatre Group in 1987 so I would have a group of Artists that worked the same way and with that group I began to put up plays and to teach. With that group I produced 90 plays and lost money on 89 plays. I was working my way up the ladder Artistically, but failing miserably, financially. With my group, I knew that being an Actor wan't enough. If I felt I had the Right to Act, I would have to Write, to Act. I needed another way of expressing myself creatively, so I started writing... A lot. With my group of Actors, I began putting up plays that I had written. I began to incorporate Writing in my Acting classes, to create opportunities for ourselves. To date I have 2 Feature Films that I Wrote, Produced, & Acted in, that have been made. They are: THE LAST NIGHT INN (which can be seen on iTunes, Amazon, VUDU and other outlets), and THE LAST TRAIN. I also have another 9 Screenplays that I will be looking to find the money and get made as well. I have 2 other Full Length Plays I will look to put on Stage, a One-Man Show, and these 36 One-Act Plays, which I have included in this book. My other Books published and sold through Amazon are: TO BE AN ACTOR, SUBWAY SUICIDE, THE LAST NIGHT INN, LOVE PLAYS, SEX PLAYS, MOB PLAYS, SEEING PACINO, THE DANCER & HER SAVIOR, TEEN PLAYS, KID PLAYS, 9/11 PLAYS, IF THIS BENCH COULD SPEAK, G.A., POEMS OF LOVE & LOSS, & MATTHEW-ISMS. As an Acting Teacher, I see many of the same scenes done over and over. I have taught in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Mumbai, Dubai, Istanbul, Johannesburg, Stockholm, Berlin, London, Paris, Liverpool, Seoul, Strasbourg, & Mexico City. This Book will provide many new Acting opportunities for my students and students in Acting classes around the world, and more importantly, I hope, to inspire them to do what I have done... Give them, The Right to Act, by Writing to Act.
