About the Book

Nach dem Erscheinen von "Gemeinschaft und Gesellschaft" und der typologischen Einführung seiner Strukturbegriffe zur Kennzeichnung unterschiedlicher sozialer Ordnungen, hat sich Tönnies dem Problem einer soziologisch-anthropologischen Entwicklungstheorie genähert. Dabei untersuchte er den wirtschaftlichen, politischen und kulturellen Zustand der Neuzeit, der ihm idealtypisch mit dem der Gesellschaft identisch war, um die wesentlichen Richtungen und Tendenzen zu erkennen, ohne eine weitere der bereits vielen vorliegenden allgemeinen Weltgeschichten zu produzieren. Die für Tönnies kritische Frage der Neuzeit lautet: Kann und wird aus dem wissenschaftlichen, philosophischen Gedanken heraus eine wirksame, also mit Erfolg gelehrte Ethik hervorgehen?

Nachdem das Herausgeberkollegium der Tönnies-Gesamtausgabe und der Verlag Walter de Gruyter Hinweise darauf erhalten haben, dass in den Bänden 5 und 22,2 der Tönnies Gesamtausgabe möglicherweise die Standards wissenschaftlichen Arbeitens und Publizierens nicht in allen Punkten eingehalten worden sind, wurde als unabhängiger Gutachter Herr Professor Dr. Karl-Siegbert Rehberg (TU Dresden) mit der externen Prüfung des Sachverhalts beauftragt. Er kommt zu dem Ergebnis, dass "es sich in manchen Fällen um ärgerliche und für einen mit dem Werk von Ferdinand Tönnies so vertrauten und darum sich Verdienste erworben habenden Mitherausgeber fast unbegreifliche Ungenauigkeiten bei Nachweis von Formulierungen im Vorwort bzw. Editorischen Bericht handelt", bei welchen die Quellenangaben unterblieben sind. Insbesondere Bezugnahmen auf die Internet-Enzyklopädie Wikipedia erfolgten ohne Quellenangabe.

Herausgeberkollegium und Verlag möchten hiermit auf diesen Verstoß gegen die editorischen Standards primär in den Editorischen Berichten der Bände 5 und 22,2 der Tönnies-Gesamtausgabe hinweisen. Die Qualitätssicherung der Tönnies-Gesamtausgabe wird dementsprechend angepasst.
