Ómar Vargas

Ómar Vargas is an assistant professor of Spanish in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at the University of Miami where he has been a faculty member since 2015. Vargas completed his PhD in Spanish American literature at the Universty of Texas at Austin and his undergraduate studies in mathematics at Universidad Nacional de Colombia. His research interests focus on the relationships between scientific discoveries and developments, and the narrative fiction of Latin America and the Caribbean in twentieth and twenty-first centuries, particularly in the cases of authors such as José Lezama Lima, Jorge Luis Borges, Salvador Elizondo, and Gabriel García Márquez. He is currently exploring the transition of the scientist to a writer in the case of Argentine author Ernesto Sábato. He has published in Latin American Literary Review, Ciberletras, The Borges Center, Revista Revolución y Cultura, Nueva Revista del Pacífico, and La Habana Elegante.

Ómar Vargas es profesor asistente de español para el Departamento de lenguas modernas y literaturas de la Universidad de Miami. Vargas terminó su PhD en literatura hispanoamericana en la Universidad de Texas en Austin y sus estudios de pregrado en matemáticas en la Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Su área de investigación se ocupa de las relaciones entre descubrimientos y desarrollos científicos y la ficción narrativa de América Latina y el Caribe durante los siglos XX y XXI, particularmente en los casos de autores como José Lezama Lima, Jorge Luis Borges, Salvador Elizondo, y Gabriel García Márquez. Actualmente trabaja en una investigación que explora la transición de científico a escritor en el caso del autor argentino Ernesto Sábato. Ha publicado en Latin American Literary Review, Ciberletras, Variaciones Borges, Revista Revolución y Cultura, Nueva Revista del Pacífico, y La Habana Elegante.
