Known for defending the common man, he led the "Free Silver Movement" against the East Coastestablishment, that favored the gold standard. Bryan was also Secretary of State (1913-1915) under President Woodrow Wilson. MARY BAIRD BRYAN (1861-1930) was an American writer and suffragette.
