William F CrapoBill began his career in the fire service as a volunteer firefighter with the Brentwood Volunteer Fire Department, Brentwood Maryland, in 1965. As a volunteer I filled several line and staff positions, including fire chief. In 1973 he was appointed t the District of Columbia Fire Department (DCFD), beginning a career that spanned 20 years. Most of the 20 years was spend serving in the firefighting division as a Firefighter, Sergeant, Lieutenant (shift commander), Capatin (company commander) and Acting Battalion Chief. During his career in the DCFD he was privileged to serve in some of the District's most prestigious engine companies, including two year as Lieutenant at Engine 4, and later as Captain for two year at Engine 11 and served three years in the Office of the Fire Marshal. After retirement from DCFD, he worked for four years in the Fire Marshal's office of the Fairfax County, Virginia, Department of Fire and Rescue. I left Fairfax County in early 2001 to accept a position as Assistant Fire Chief with the Harrisonburg, Virginia, Fire Department (HFD and retired as Deputy Fire Chief from the HFD in January, 2011. He graduated from the University of Maryland (UMD), College Park, Maryland, with a BA degree in Fire Science, as well as an AA degree in Management.
