William A SheremataWilliam A. Sheremata, MD, FRCPC, FACP graduated from the College of Arts and Sciences and subsequently from the Medical School at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. He interned in Vancouver, British Columbia, and underwent training in medicine athospitals in Victoria, B.C., Toronto, and Kingston, Ontario, Canada. He trained in neurology with Dr. Norman Geschwind at the Boston VA and Boston City Hospitals. Concomitantly, he carried out research into the immunology of multiple sclerosis with Dr. Peter Behan at the Boston VHA and with Dr. John David at the Brigham Hospital. Dr. Sheremata was recruited by the Montreal Neurological Institute in 1971 and worked with James Bertrand Cosgrove. In 1972, he received a Medical Research Council Establishment grant, continuing his clinical and laboratory programs. After 6 years he joined the faculty at the University of Miami School of Medicine in 1977, where he is currently a Professor of Neurology and Director of the MS Center. His research has been concerned with neuroimmunology and therapeutic in MS. Dr. Sheremata is certified in medicine by the American Board of Medicine, and in neurology by the Royal College of Physicians (Canada).
