William A SatarianoWilliam A. Satariano, Ph.D., M.P.H. is Professor of Epidemiology and Community Health and Director of the Health and Social Behavior Program in the School of Public Health at the University of California at Berkeley. Prior to his appointment at UC Bekeley, he served as Deputy Director of the Division of Epidemiology and the Metropolitan Detroit Cancer Surveillance System at the Michigan Cancer Foundation from 1980-89. His research interests include the epidemiology of aging and disability, functional assessment, cancer rehabilitation and survival, physical activity and health in older populations, and the effects of the built environment on health and functioning. He has served as principal investigator for a number of epidemiological studies funded by the National Institute on Aging, the National Cancer Institute, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Cancer Society, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. In 1999, he served as a Fulbright Scholar at the National Center for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) in the Netherlands. Dr. Satariano also has served as an advisor and consultant to a variety of public and private organizations, including membership on the National Advisory Committee for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Active for Life Program, a national, community-based program to enhance physical activity in older populations.
