Warner Van LorneEditor of the influential Astounding Stories and other science fiction magazines, Frederick Orlin Tremaine was an American (born January 7, 1899-died October 22, 1956). He oversaw a variety of publishing enterprises, edited a number of other periodicls, and occasionally wrote fiction. In the spring of 1920, when Tremaine was a junior at Valparaiso, he served as the news editor of the Torch, the weekly student newspaper. He held the position of Editor-in-Chief from 1920 to 1921, his senior year. After graduating, he took a position on the staff of a newspaper in New York City. He worked as an associate editor at The Eastern Underwriter in NYC toward the end of 1922. He then went on to the Macfadden magazine group. He served as Macfadden's Brain Power and Beautiful Womanhood's managing editor in May 1923. On June 1, 1923, he was appointed editor of the esteemed Metropolitan Magazine, which was later renamed Macfadden Fiction-Magazine Lovers for the issue published in October 1924.
