Wanda E PoweEarly in life, Wanda Powe was influenced by her 8th grade English teacher's grace, poise and brilliance. As a result, the native of Meridian, Mississippi decided to become an educator. Despite the challenges she faced throughout her younger years, Poe persevered in her efforts to achieve. She attributes her accomplishments to her close-knit family and those who selflessly gave of their time to provide support and guidance along the way. Powe began her teaching career as an elementary school paraprofessional. After attaining a Bachelor of Science degree from Livingston University, now named the University of West Alabama, she eventually earned a PhD from Mississippi State University. After having served in various capacities, she became a school administrator. Dr. Powe knows first-hand about the determination, support and encouragement that people, and especially children, need to stay the course against all odds. Her passion to write poetry has been inspired by her own stories of love, life and ordinary matters with the belief that the power of words can impact a lifetime of achievement. In fact, the compilation of rhyme presented in Where History Meets Poetry, African American Legends was inspired 25 years ago by her former secondary students at Marion Park Alternative Complex in Meridian. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Wanda Powe is the founder of the training company, Diversified Solutions PreK-12. Providing resources and support to both educators and students, including those with special needs, is her mission.
