Walter ShapiroPolitical columnist Walter Shapiro is a fellow at the Brennan Center for Justice at the NYU School of Law and a lecturer in political science at Yale. He won the 2010 Sigma Delta Chi Award for best online columnist for his work as senior corresponden at Politics Daily. During his four decades covering politics and government-including nine presidential campaigns-Walter has been Washington bureau chief for Salon and on the staffs of Esquire, Time, Newsweek, and the Washington Post. For nine years, he was a political columnist for USA Today. He covered the 2012 presidential race for Yahoo! News and the Columbia Journalism Review. His book on the prelude to the 2004 Democratic presidential race, One-Car Caravan, was published in 2003. Walter served in the Carter administration as a presidential speechwriter.
