Virginia C GleserBorn in Osaka, Japan in 1950, a refugee in utero from the Korean War I grew up in Korea until arriving in the U.S. for college. My parents were medical missionaries and I attended boarding schools for Junior and Senior High School. I have been marrie for 45 years to my husband Robert, and I am mother to 8 wonderful children and 6 grandchildren. We were founding members of The Farm in Summertown, TN., an intentional spiritual community founded in 1971. 350 people from San Francisco arrived in Tn. on a Caravan of buses after a four month trip around the U.S. speaking at colleges and churches hoping to help bring peace to a divided nation created by the Vietnam War, the Civil Rights struggle, the Women's Rights movement and the idea of a better Preservation of our environment. During the 12 years we were on the Farm, our children were delivered at home by midwives headed by Ina May Gaskin. I worked at the Gate helping to greet and give tours to the more than 10,000 visitors a year and also worked at the clinic for new born babies. I was a doula at birthings and helped women care for their babies after they were born. Robert and I ran the Plenty, Inc. Miami Center for three years taking care of the elderly and physically challenged. In 1983 we moved to California, and I started up my tie-dye company, Harmony Enterprises to help pay the bills for our large family. I wrote the book called " Tie Dye the How- to book" and did arts and craft shows around the West. After the children graduated from college, I sold the tie-dye business to my eldest son and we sailed our ketch sailboat, Harmony to Mexico and on through Central America to Ecuador. Having returned to Mexico we are now sailing for their 17th 6-month season with an average of 2000 miles a year. While I was out cruising I wrote and published "Harmony on the High Seas, When Your Mate Becomes Your Matey" I have always been active in promoting community whether it is on The Farm, the art community or in the cruising community.
