Vanessa PittmanVanessa R. Pitt man is a New York native. When she was younger, she dreamed of becoming a writer and being fi nancially inde-pendent. Th ough Vanessa was derailed from that dream, she has always been a go-gett er and dedicated to her profession in raio media upon graduation from Kingsborough Community College in 1987.Fast forward a few years later. Due to downsizing, Vanessa found herself in law enforcement, which has made her professional life extremely rewarding. Vanessa retired as a civilian from the New York City Police Department aft er 32 1/2 years and is a 9/11 survivor.Living as a survivor while birthing her son DeAndrè, as well as taking care of her almost one year old daughter Taélor, Vanessa had to make sure their future was secure. Th is meant putt ing her dream of being an author placed on the sidelines. As her children grew older, Vanessa needed to write down her experiences as a 9/11 survivor to deal with the trauma of that day. Since her children have graduated from college (that is what she gets for having children back-to-back LOL), healing her mind, body, and spirit became more of an urgency. Now, 23 years later, Vanessa is still here but had to retire due to six illnesses (and counting).While being placed on disability, she needed to realize her worthand still have time to work on things that not only benefited her, buther family as well. Vanessa realized that after such a tragic day shecould survive anything once she put her mind to it. Vanessa alsolearned that you are never too old to learn new skills and ideas. As anempty-nester, Vanessa finally dedicated to writing this book and realizeher original dream of becoming a writer.Although she fights constant pain and depression, Vanessa is fullydedicated to telling her story and living the best life. Every day isa fight, but Vanessa will succeed and realize her goals and dreamswith the time she has left. Vanesaa is extremely grateful for every daythe Lord grants her regardless if it is raining, snowing, or the sunis shining. Vanessa has now realized that she has an assignment tofill to uplift others, and she plans to do it by any means necessary.Vanessa is praying this book will help others from that tragic day tofind their strength and ability to navigate this burden no one askedfor or saw coming.Vanessa is married to her best friend André. They have two youngadult children and reside in Laurelton, New York. She bides her timewith writing her second book. Vanessa hopes to continue sharinginspiration and motivation to those around her, whether at homeor on her social media.Vanessa's ultimate goal is to start a podcastand become a motivational speaker helping others heal from unresolvedtrauma.
