He has a BA in chemistry, an MA in behavioral toxicology, a PhD in Pharmacology and an MD with a specialization in pediatrics. Although his academic training is strogest in the sciences it was medicine that provided the impetus to study ethics -including a medical ethics university course. This led to a further expansion of self-directed learning in philosophy. He found that for the most part philosophy had not kept up with the modern scientific advances, especially in the neurosciences including psychology.
