Tony Pinnington

Tony PinningtonBorn in Liverpool in 1940, Tony Pinnington attended St Mary's College, Crosby. He graduated in mechanical engineering at Bristol University, where he met his wife Elizabeth. His engineering career began with two years in a design office in Colmar, Frnce. After a spell in America, he returned to England and later gravitated towards sales and marketing, joining a Bristol-based company making specialised heavy machinery, which involved world-wide travel but which had allowed a family move to their beloved West Country. He planted a small vineyard on the Mendip Hills and partnered with a local farmer in a larger one.He progressed into general management but with Britain becoming less competitive in heavy engineering, he took a local opportunity in Thorn EMI Electronics and later set up the British arm for a German company. In retirement his adopted voluntary roles included the Prince's Trust as a business mentor, Exmoor National Park Low Carbon steering group, Forum 21 and REMAP. He remains a practising Catholic, encouraged by Pope John XXIII and Vatican II.
