He was educated in a small rural public school system, at Wofford College, a small liberal arts men's college, and in graduate school at the huge University of Florida. He has been a farmer-cowboy, a regultory compliance analyst, and an introvert. He holds reverence for the art of memory, and writes about the fallacies of memory.
