He was designated as a Protective Services/VIP Security Subject Matter Expert by Canada's National Police force. This designation is required in orer to validate officers' competencies when seeking promotional opportunities within Protective Services. Roman was initially seconded to work VIP duties early in his career and then worked full time in executive protection, bringing him to the present, where he has consulted and worked executive protection in the private sector.

As a law enforcement officer in British Columbia, Roman held the following VIP/Protective positions: Protective Services Unit Commander; Protective Services Operations NCO; In Charge of the Premier's Protection Detail; VIP Security Team leader; VIP Security Section Team member; International Protected Person (IPP)-VIP security planner for the 2010 Winter Olympics; Facilitator for the VIP file coordination and Site Commanders course; and Syndicate Leader on the National VIP Security Course (Vancouver).
