He was educated at the University of Missouri-Columbia and the Kenyon School of English. His work appeared in Esquire, Epoch, >Prairie Schooner, and elsewhere, including numerous anthologies. He was the author of ten books, including The Body and the Body's Guest, Rover Youngblood: a Novel, I'll Be Home Late Tonight, and Whatever Isn't Glory.
