Tarina Anne ParisianMy name is Tarina A. Parisian, and I am a First Nations woman from Winnipeg, Manitoba. This story appeared while attending a ceremonial event at Red Willow Lodge. The Elders who owned the lodge and conducted these ceremonies, Jules and Margaret Lavalee, played a huge part in my learning traditions that I had never been exposed to before. It was here that I sounded my voice, learned to drum, and sang customary songs. It gave me a sense of freedom and of self that I had never experienced before. I am very proud to be First Nations. I look forward to sharing my story and hope you enjoy the journey. Read More Read Less
