T J DowdsTom Dowds was among the first graduates from Strathclyde University and taught history in secondary schools in Paisley and Cumbernauld before becoming a tutor in the Centre for Lifelong Learning at Strathclyde. He is the author of a number pf books, ncluding The French Invasion of Ireland 1798, The Forth and Clyde Canal: A History, and The Origins of Scotland's National Identity, and contributed to The Compendium of Scottish Ethnology, and Thomas Muir of Huntershill: Essays for the Twenty First Century, and is the author of a number of articles.
