Sylvia Houston LeeSylvia Houston Lee was born in 1941 in Houston, Texas, into a family with the surname of Houston but who were not related to Texas' hero Sam Houston. After obtaining a fine arts bachelor's degree she took graduate classes in anthropology, then graduaed with a BSN and worked as an RN for the Indian Health Service. She gained skills for searching out researching archives and interviewing people from the anthropology classes and from inter-personal interactions as a nurse.
