Syed Ali HamidMajor-General Syed Ali Hamid was born into a family with 150 years of tradition of soldiering. Syed Ali Hamid retired from the Pakistan Army after more than 50 years of service, more than half of this with the Pakistan Armoured Corps. He served with n armoured regiment during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971, commanded a mechanized division, lectured for six years at the faculty of the Army Staff College and Pakistan's National Defence University, and developed a passion for military history. While extensively researching the history of the British Indian Army, and the military history of the Indian Subcontinent, he published hundreds of articles in military magazines and journals, and several related books.
