Susan PermutAlthough children's author Susan Permut wrote her first "book" at age eight, it wasn't until she became a storyteller in one of her community's local elementary schools that she decided to try her hand at writing children's books. Once she started, se didn't stop and her rhymes seemed effortless resulting in many poems, one of which is her debut picture book, My Christmas Camel. Susan has written short stories for literary magazines and several books about ethnic markets, delis, and restaurants in the Denver area, but for her children's book she was inspired following the tragic events on September 11, 2001. Wanting to write about the bond that exists between the Christian and Muslim worlds, she wrote a poem that ultimately became this charming Christmas tale. She hopes her young readers come away from her story with the idea that we all have to help each other in this world no matter where we are from, and that it stays with them long after the book is closed. When she isn't writing playful stories for children, Susan enjoys being outside in nature, hiking, traveling, and also crocheting. An environmental activist, Susan advocates to raise awareness and take action about climate change. Originally from England, she lives in Colorado with her husband, a sculptor who provided artistic support for her book, and their beautiful dog, a saluki. Read More Read Less
