Susan HoughSusan Elizabeth Hough is president of the Seismological Society of America. She received a Ph.D. in Earth sciences from University of California at San Diego in 1987. She has subsequently worked at Columbia University in New York, returning to Califonia in 1992 to join the United States Geological Survey in Pasadena. Her books include: Earthshaking Science: What We Know (and Don't Know) about Earthquakes (Princeton University Press, 2002), Finding Fault in California: An Earthquake Tourist's Guide (Mountain Press Publishers, 2004), After the Earth Quakes: Elastic Rebound on an Urban Planet (Oxford, 2005), Richter's Scale: Measure of an Earthquake, Measure of a Man (Princeton, 2007), and Predicting the Unpredictable: The Tumultuous Science of Earthquake Prediction (Princeton, 2010).
