Susan EcklesI was 10 years old and in the fourth grade when I won the first place blue ribbon for my homemade biscuits. I was in the 4-H club at the time in a small school in rural Tennessee. This success began my lifelong love for baking. Growing up in the sout, a gift usually came not from a store but from one's kitchen. Friends and neighbors would share tomato relishes, jams, cakes, breads, and many other items with each other.
