Heining did start on his chosen career-path -- being an essayist -- but eventually gave up writing columns. Too many editors were high on his work as long as they could pilfer AND trim almost all personality from it. Heining soon had success as a retail assistant-manager, and that is when his long-hidden leadership talent appeared. Heining is father to legions to kids. For years he donated plasma to a Johnson & Johnson lab -- J & J used his/others' plasma in making RhoGAM, a drug all expectant Rh-negative moms need to see their babies live. More, Heining will give his eyes/tissues to ConnectLife, plus his body to SUNY at Buffalo's Anatomical Gift Program, upon death. As member of the Bronx County Historical Society, Heining has spent thousands toward the upkeep of Edgar Allan Poe Cottage (listed in our National Register of Historic Places) and has even made the Cottage main benefactor in his will.
