Stafford I CohenStafford I. Cohen has been a licensed physician for 51 years. Before that, he graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brown University and pursued his medical training at the Boston University School of Medicine. He was a medica intern and a medical resident at Beth Israel Hospital, Boston. Licensed in internal medicine, Dr. Cohen became certified in cardiology after receiving sub-specialty training in the cardiology departments of Charles K. Friedberg at Mt. Sinai Hospital, New York, and Anthony Damato at the US Public Health Service Hospital, Staten Island, New York, where Dr. Cohen was a Research Associate. Dr. Cohen was a staff physician specializing in cardiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, from 1968 to 2009. He continues to serve on the staff of Beth Israel Deaconess. His current academic appointments are Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Cohen is currently a fellow of the American College of Physicians, American College of Cardiology, and the American Heart Association. He is a member of the Heart Rhythm Society. Awards and honors presented to Dr. Cohen include honorary membership in the Harvard Medical Alumni Association, and nominations for the S. Robert Stone Award for Teaching at Beth Israel Hospital and the Daniel D. Federman Outstanding Clinical Educator Award of Harvard Medical School. He was a recipient of the Women's Aid in Heart Research Award and is on the faculty of the Oliver Wendell Holmes Society of Harvard Medical School. Stafford Cohen was born in Boston. He married Deborah Rosen. Together they have two children and four grandchildren. Through his long career, Dr. Cohen has authored and co-authored many articles, research studies and similar papers, published in peer-reviewed medical and scientific journals, as book chapters, and elsewhere. Paul Zoll MD, The Pioneer Whose Discoveries Prevent Sudden Death is his first full-length book. Dr. Cohen was a medical resident under Dr. Zoll and, later, a colleague at Beth Israel Hospital. His respect and admiration for Dr. Zoll created the impetus for writing the book. While some of the biographical material presented in its pages comes from the author's experiences and interactions with Zoll, the majority of information conveyed in the book was drawn from Cohen's seven years of research.
