Silvano BorrusoSILVANO BORRUSO studied Agricultural Sciences in the University of Catania, Sicily. After briefly lecturing on Systematic Botany, he went to Kenya to help start a novel, in 1961, non-racial Sixth Form Junior College for ethnically diverse students. Te College ran a two year program culminating in the students sitting public examinations set by English Universities. Each year, the student intake consisted of 40 indigenous African, 10 Asian and 10 Caucasian students. The College maintained high standards, over 98% of the students qualifying for university entrance. Borruso made a significant contribution in maintaining these standards. In addition, his many abilities were in evidence in the extra-curricula activities of the residential College. He entertained with his singing, accompanying himself on the guitar. He played soccer well, as the students found out in the frequent student-staff games. He was also a very able rock climber who was willing to share his skills in teaching others. As a result, of his high level of skill, Borruso was part of the Kenyan Mountain Rescue Team. Of an inquisitive mind and graced with a comprehensive memory, he was always stimulating company.
