Siegfried KracauerSiegfried Kracauer was born in Frankfurt, Germany. He studied philosophy, sociology, and architecture at the Universities and Institutes of Technology of Berlin and Munich, receiving his doctor's degree in Berlin. Upon his arrival in the United State in April 1941, he was appointed special assistant to the Curator of the Museum of Modern Art Film Library and commissioned to analyze Nazi war film propaganda-an assignment sponsored by the Rockefeller Foundation.
