Shirya RashidShirya Rashid has a Ph.D. in Medical Sciences from the University of Toronto. She was a tenured Associate Professor in the Departments of Pharmacology & Medicine at Dalhousie & McMaster Universities in Canada. Her translational research interest is i cardiovascular diseases, focusing on lipid metabolism at the molecular, cellular, mouse in vivo & clinical levels. She was the first to create the PCSK9 gene-deleted mouse model, uncovering the physiological function of PCSK9 in degrading the LDL receptor & leading to the PCSK9 inhibitory drug therapies (eg alirocumab), highly effective in reducing cardiovascular disease.
