Her long association with Miami, both as a former resident and later working in the city has allowed her to understand Miami's many faces, itsdiversity, beauty and character.During her early Miami years, Shelby became acutely aware of homeless living on the city streets. She admired the strong commitment to "helping the street people" by Camillus House, an organization run by a group of Catholic brothers. They offer not only food and shelter, but medical and employment assistance as well.
