Shawn AbellShawn's family is part of a long line of brave men who served their county in various wars, from the Missouri Volunteer regiment which served in the Civil War to her own two sons who served in the United States Armed Forces. Her son William was deploed to Iraq in 2004, 2007, 2009, and Afghanistan in 2011. Her father served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. Her grandfather, Walter Wesley Goddard, served in the United States Navy aboard a Patrol Torpedo boat - a torpedo-armed fast attack vessel - during World War II and gave his life in the line of duty. He died July 4th, 1942 at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Pensacola, Florida. The family was honored with a letter of gratitude for his service signed by Franklin Roosevelt who was president of the United States of America at that time. Her family's service has fostered strong feelings of appreciation for all the men and women who fight for our country and for our freedom. Those sentiments led her to found Dog's Nation in order to help veterans in need. Each dog she trains and gifts to a veteran provides support, greater self-sufficiency, offers more coping skills, decreases anxiety and stress thus reducing the risk of suicide, and improves their quality of life. She currently resides in Missouri. Read More Read Less
