Sharyn JanesSharyn Janes, PhD, RN was a professor in the School of Nursing at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in Tallahassee, Florida, where she taught community public health nursing at the baccalaureate level and research and theory at the maste's level. Prior to her position at Florida A & M University, she was a case manager in the Division of Organizational Planning and Improvement at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. She has held the rank of professor of nursing at Thomas University, Thomasville, GA, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, New Orleans, LA, and the University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg. While at LSUHSC, she held the positions of Associate Dean for Professional Practice and Community Relations and Director of the MSN Programs. While at USM, she was the director of the school of Nursing. She taught community health/public health nursing at the baccalaureate and master's levels, health care policy and philosophy of science at the doctoral level, international health courses in Cuba and Jamaica, and graduate and undergraduate courses in transcultural nursing. Dr. Janes was the Director of the Cuba Studies Program in the University of Southern Mississippi College of International and Continuing Education. She earned her BSN at Marywood College, Scranton, Pennsylvania; her MS in community health nursing at the State University of New York at Binghamton; and her PhD in higher education at Florida State University, Tallahassee. Dr. Janes has practiced nursing in a variety of community settings, including home health, hospice, and school health and in several acute care settings, including medical-surgical units and emergency departments. Her scholarly presentations and publications are predominantly in the areas of HIV/AIDS educations and prevention; cultural issues in nursing education, practice, and research; and international health and education.
