Previously, while working for a school District in Gorgia, Shannan was awarded for being able to overturn state-wide reading test scores. Children who were unable to read or were reading far below their presenting reading levels gained astronomical growth...as much as a 98% success rate! This was done through what she calls the "power of edutainment". Later, after a bold move to California, History is A Part of Me was a concept adopted from a song she was commissioned to write called "I Am Somebody". Never had she imagined there were so many black inventors. As she did research, the rabbit hole grew deep as she grew emotional. Shannan knew that this particular pursuit was a purpose filled assignment alongside of her music. Nothing offers sheer affirmation more than seeing families and classrooms all over praise the efforts of this generational tool as it increases awareness, boosts self-confidence, sparks imagination and focuses on the importance of seeing a need and filling the void; therefore fostering more problem solvers.When she is not performing or writing, Shannan also consults other indie artists on various topics relating to their frustrations and the music business.
