Scott IrwinI am an agricultural economist and hold the Laurence J. Norton Chair of Agricultural Marketing at the University of Illinois. My best-known work is on commodity market speculation and biofuel markets. In addition to publishing hundreds of scholarly aticles in my nearly 40-year career, I have written articles and op-eds for the New York Times, Washington Times, and Time magazine. I work very hard at engaging with the public and enjoy writing immensely. Much to my surprise, I am the most widely followed agricultural economist in the world on social media.I am a long-time member of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association (AAEA) and was named a Fellow in 2013, the highest honor bestowed by the Association. I earned a B.S. in Agricultural Business from Iowa State University and both an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from Purdue University. My lifelong fascination with commodity markets started as a young boy tagging along with my father to check the latest prices from 'Chicago' at the local grain elevator.Detailed information on my professional activities can be found at my website: https: //scotthirwin.com/.
